Upcoming Programs
Lights on Main: Winterfest Homeschool Day
Step into a magical winter wonderland with your family that brings together history, community, and holiday fun! This winter the Frazier Museum will be partnering with the non-profit I’d Rather Be Reading to offer 3 floors full of trees decorated by community partners, organizations, individuals, and families.
During this engaging experience, students will enjoy a tree scavenger hunt, a selection of craft & activity tables, access to all museum exhibitions, a prize drawing, touch stations, and the opportunity to view a live presentation in the theatre. Families also have the option of bringing a snack or sack lunch to enjoy in our first-floor lunchroom.
Teacher Training: Which Side Are You On? Inquiry Learning Through State History
Do your students know why we celebrate Labor Day each September? The Frazier Museum education team is pleased to team up with Caroline C. Sheffield, PhD, an Associate Professor in Social Studies Education at the University of Louisville to provide you with the tools needed to help students answer that question.
Using the picture book Which Side Are You On? by Kentucky author George Ella Lyon and illustrator Christopher Cardinale as an anchor text, this session will use the conflict between miners and the coal companies to explore how labor unions have helped create safer and fairer working conditions.
Camp Frazier Open House
Join us on February 8th for an open house all about seasonal camps at the Frazier. From 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, meet the education staff that will be leading our upcoming Spring Break and Summer camps and have your questions answered. Join a guided tour of the museum and see the exhibits and the stories that will be featured in camp activities. See a live musical history performance like the ones we present to children year-round. Then hang out for a game of mancala, build a Lego dinosaur in our education center, and meet Ponk, the Frazier Museum’s Axolotl. If you’ve been curious about camps at the Frazier Museum or dreaming of a way for your kids to spend an entire week playing and learning in the cultural tapestry and artistic bounty of these halls, then we hope you’ll join us.
