10 Years of Marriage Equality

On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court extended the right to marry to same-sex couples nationwide, requiring states to recognize and license same-sex marriages. As we approach the anniversary and share that history in our newly opened Davis Jewelers’ Love & Marriage exhibition, we gather many of the Kentucky plaintiffs and some of their attorneys who played a pivotal role in the Obergefell v. Hodges decision. Join us June 24 as we discuss the decision as well as the political, social, and religious climate moving forward.

Do your students know why we celebrate Labor Day each September? The Frazier Museum education team is pleased to team up with Caroline C. Sheffield, PhD, an Associate Professor in Social Studies Education at the University of Louisville to provide you with the tools needed to help students answer that question.

Using the picture book Which Side Are You On? by Kentucky author George Ella Lyon and illustrator Christopher Cardinale as an anchor text, this session will use the conflict between miners and the coal companies to explore how labor unions have helped create safer and fairer working conditions.
