Cool Kentucky

Made in Kentucky is a sub-section of our Cool Kentucky Exhibition. We have a map with all the different products currently produced in the state, as well as a case that will be fully devoted to Dollar General. The case (covered in a graphic to the left) is about 10 inches deep with multiple shelves for items such as post cards, photographs, small objects. A text panel about Dollar General will be added to the wall as well. Theres room for larger objects outside of the case above the map as well. This wall is exactly opposite the 120: Cool KY Counties exhibit located in the same great hall.

120: Cool KY Counties

120: Cool KY Counties is housed in the Cool Kentucky exhibition on the first floor of the museum and Allen County is prominently featured, along with the story of Dollar General. 120 consists of two touch screen maps of Kentucky: when you touch a county, you’re shown content—an interesting text story, a video, and a song by a local artist—from that county.

The Commonwealth: Divided We Fall

In our second floor exhibit, The Commonwealth, there is a kids play store that will be renamed to J. L. Turner and Son. We will be updating the shelf graphics to be physical shelves with play items to stack and interact with. The counter will expand to be an “L” with items located behind an acrylic base in a similar vein to general store counters. We will also include a small panel about J. L. Turner and Son on the outside of the store for adults to learn more about while their kids are inside.
