TITLE: Sr. Manager of 120

RESPONSIBLE TO: Sr. Director of Engagements

SUPERVISES: Engagement Specialist

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Sr. Manager of 120 oversees the planning, coordination, staffing, and successful implementation of 120: Cool KY Counties On the Road. The traveling mobile exhibition highlights stories, songs and more from each county in Kentucky. This position supervises the Manager of 120 and serves as the lead responsible for ensuring high-quality visitor experiences, educational programming, community partnerships, and operational logistics for traveling exhibits and off-site events throughout the state. You will work with partners like the Louisville Orchestra and help cultivate others, as well as identify new places and community festivals to visit.

This position helps to oversee and create new content showcasing the incredible stories and history gathered from every county, in part by connecting with individuals on their Kentucky stories during our visits. This position will have some oversight of financial reporting as well as tracking data needed by other departments.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong organizational, communication, and supervisory skills who is passionate about museums, education, community engagement and cultural heritage.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate Manager of 120, public engagement specialists, and part-time outreach staff

  • Provide coaching and professional development to staff focused on visitor engagement and educational facilitation

  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team environment

  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training staff and volunteers related to traveling exhibits and outreach programs

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of traveling exhibits and off-site engagement initiatives

  • Develop and implement public programming, hands-on activities, and interpretive strategies connected to traveling exhibit

  • Serve as a primary liaison with libraries, festivals, community organizations, and partner institutions

  • Support initiatives that increase accessibility and audience engagement across diverse communities

  • Manage program calendars, staffing schedules, supply inventories, and operational documentation

  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and tracking program expenses

  • Collect and report attendance data, visitor feedback, and program outcomes

  • Complete quarterly reporting

  • Ensure compliance with museum policies, safety standards, and operational procedures

  • Write as needed articles for the Frazier Weekly virtual magazine

  • Assist with social media engagement, content gathering, and publishing

  • Other duties as assigned

SCHEDULE:

This position requires a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays depending on exhibit programming and travel needs

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, education, history, public history, communications, arts administration, or related field preferred

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in museums, education, outreach, visitor services, or public programming

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred

  • Strong public speaking, interpersonal, and customer service skills

  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in fast-paced environments

  • Experience developing educational or public engagement programming preferred

  • Comfortable working with diverse audiences and community partners

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and audiovisual technology

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and move throughout exhibit and event spaces for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and move exhibit materials and equipment up to 40 pounds

  • Ability to assist with exhibit installation, transportation, and breakdown

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with traveling exhibitions, outreach initiatives, or informal learning environments

  • Knowledge of museum interpretation and visitor engagement best practice

  • Experience managing logistics for public programs or community events

  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus
