Rough Road
“Rough Road: The Kentucky Documentary Photographic Project 1975 – 1977″

Beginning in 1975, three photographers– Ted Wathen, Bob Hower and Bill Burke– captured images in each of Kentucky’s 120 counties, creating a photographic record of Kentucky during the nation’s Bicentennial celebration. What resulted was “The Kentucky Documentary Photographic Project.”
Now, 35 years later, the Frazier History Museum is giving it new life as “Rough Road,” an exhibition featuring the striking photography of Wathen, Hower and Burke, along with artifacts and items from their photographic journey.
“Rough Road” serves as the centerpiece of a community-wide photography exhibition, the Louisville Photo Biennial. Other Photo Biennial venues include the University of Louisville’s Hite Art Institute Galleries, Kaviar Forge and Gallery, Speed Art Museum, Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, 21c Museum & Hotel, Mellwood Art Center, Louisville Visual Arts Association, and others.
