Ready. Aim. Schützenfest! 12/11/2009 - 3/7/2010 The Schützenfest tradition traces its roots to 14th century Germany when marksmen used crossbows to shoot elaborately decorated targets as part of multi-day festivals. Crossbows gave way to rifles, and the competition eventually found its way to America, when immigrants brought the pastime to their new homeland. Today, like then, entire communities join in the revelry, which includes parades, picnics, dances and fireworks. As part of this ultimate target shooting challenge and social event, expert marksmen compete to win lavish prizes. The Frazier Museum is proud to present the late L. Dan Schlegel Jr.'s impressive Schützenfest Collection, thanks to the generosity of daughters Lynn Kunau and Laura Lee Boone, in our 3rd Floor North Gallery.
