Joan-of-arc

Heresy

After Joan of Arc was captured by the Duke of Burgundy in the year 1430, the English church planned to execute her on charges of witchcraft. Under an old English law, however, virgins could not be charged with witchcraft. She was instead convicted of heresy.

First Friday Homeschool Program

Date: December, 7th 2012 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

“Declaring Your Independence”

Recommended for 3rd – 8th grades

What inspired colonists to risk their lives to gain independence?  Students address this question as they act out a modern day situation relating to one of the taxes or acts leading up to the American Revolution.  In the galleries, students work on investigation guides to discover groups who fought for their independence throughout American history.  History comes to life, as students view a performance such as “Patriots or Traitors”, “Molly Pitcher” or “The Battle of Trenton.”
