Commander and Chief
When George Washington was sworn in as the first President of the United States in 1789, he initially used the name, "His High Mightiness, the President of the United States and Protector of their Liberties." Critics charged that it smacked of monarchy and Washington consented that the title be altered to "Mr. President."
SECOND SATURDAY Family Day
Date: October, 13th 2012 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
We know Halloween isn’t until later in the month, but we thought it would be fun to celebrate early. We’ll highlight ways that cultures around the world have used costumes and masks for things other than getting candy. Dress up as your favorite person from history to make the day more fun! And don’t be scared that you won’t be able to afford all of the entertainment: SECOND SATURDAY activities are FREE for all museum visitors. As always, museum admission is FREE for Kids Club members on SECOND SATURDAYs!
