The Teutonic Knights A Military History,
by William Urban. Greenhill Books, London, UK, 2003. ISBN 1 85367 535 0. 288 pp.; 6 3/4” x 9 1/2"; 25 b&w illustrations and 12 maps; hrdbnd. $34.95 plus s/h.

William Urban's Teutonic Knights is a fine survey of the growth, organization and military campaigns of this relatively little known order whose actions in the Middle Ages set the political stage for the intense combats on the Eastern Front during the Second World War. This is an interesting and well-written study by a recognized expert in Baltic history, and is recommended to those interested in medieval German history and knighthood.
